Technically, you should have died at 6 o'clock in the morning!

A few days ago,my status update on Facebook went something like this : "After reading the last entry Breaking Dawn in The Twilight Saga,I remain eternally grateful to and in debt of Stephanie Meyer.Thank you so much, you have opened my eyes.Never again in my life will I prefer such a moronic and idiotic activity over aimless time-killing acts of epic boredom!".And my dear friends,I stand by my words.Reading the entire saga was one of the stupidest things I have ever done.(And believe you me,I have done some really stupid things)Why,you ask?Well buckle up then,'cause this is going to be a long ride...

When I started my blog,I promised myself not to discuss any topic which would be offensive to certain people. But Twilight made me change my mind!I am sorry people but I have to do this! When I first heard about Twilight,it didn't sound so bad.(Of course,it was after the movie came out). Some cool vampire mojo,it seemed like it at the time and the movie was fast gaining popularity,I think second best in 2008 (Of course, after the legendary Dark Knight).I didn't get around to read the novel until the summer of this year (I was really wise until now) and have regretted wasting those precious few hours when I could have read a book that was fun and interesting. Most of my feelings, are reflected in the following video(I'm sure my female friends will kill me for this):

After I read the novel,I couldn't help but wonder again and again and again why the hell was a book full of so many clichés and horrible plots so famous? After a little pondering,I clicked right on the answer : The writer (well not much of a writer,if you consider how crappy her writing skills are) managed to manipulate the single greatest weakness of human-kind (to be specific,of females. And that is clever,no matter how pathetic her writing skills are) : Their hormones.Yes.There you go.I said it,and don't you deny it 'cause I know you believe it to be true.I mean,if you look at the novel from a neutral perspective, there is nothing there of interest, absolutely nothing. It lacks depth of character, (Except for Edward's,hence the manipulation)a proper storyline,a real plot and originality. In short,it lacks everything that should be present in a successful novel. So the writer took one thing she could accurately describe : Being a normal high school girl (Since she most probably went through the same time herself). And she made Edward Cullen something that every normal high school girl dreams of having : The perfect man, with the perfect face, the perfect body, the smooth pecs, perfect smile blah blah blah. The list goes on,and if you have read the novel, you will immediately know what I mean.

Look once again at the plot : It starts of with all the typical clichés but gets better as the saga progresses.Let's see what we have so far:

1)The new clumsy average girl moves into town and has a lot of problems. But the hottest guy in school, who never looks at anyone else falls hopelessly in love with her for reasons not well explained at all!Girl returns the feelings with equal passion.(Wow,umm, nobody saw that coming)

2)Even though he is a vampire, the girl loves him!And since he is a good vampire he controls himself. To top it all off,Bella's blood appeals more to Edward than anyone else's in the whole world!(The thing is screaming "Original!")

3)He leaves her because he thinks he is a danger for her. (How noble!!!Awww...)

4)She falls in love with another supernatural being. Both love her very much and hate each other a lot! (Okay, this is just plain creepy!)

5)And the typical hero stereotype, anything is possible by the hero,he/she has a burst of emotion and manages to power through, blah blah blah...(Of course, you have to include this point if you want your story to be crappy and non-orginal)

It was actually at this point I really realized how stupid the details of the novel were.I mean, can you imagine lion in love with it's prey? No,that is simply not how we work. Some new elements about vampires were interesting, but the writing was extremely horrible with long monotonous dialogs and unnecessarily frequent details of Edward's perfection. She thus created the perfect character for your average girl to relate to.Also, the novel get's so much boring at times that you simply want to smack yourself on the head for reading it.(Like when Edward leaves in New Moon, and Bella going crazy,or when Edward and Bella are married as vampires and we have to read about how they were enjoying and the fact that Jacob turns to their daughter, well that wasn't boring. That was just plain freaky, creepy and gross) I was stupid, because after reading the first book I went on to read the others as well.I suppose that was partly because I did not want to leave it unfinished and partly because I wanted to have a complete overview of what all the hype really was about before I said anything about it.

If you don't believe me,I can prove to you that several other people possess similar opinions.I found the following piece on Wikipedia :

While comparing Meyer to J. K. RowlingStephen King stated, "the real difference [between J. K. Rowling and Meyer] is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer, and Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good."King described the Twilight series saying that "people are attracted by the stories, by the pace and in the case of Stephenie Meyer, it's very clear that she's writing to a whole generation of girls and opening up kind of a safe joining of love and sex in those books. It's exciting and it's thrilling and it's not particularly threatening because it's not overtly sexual."
See,I'm not the only one who thinks she can't write worth a darn!

Before this,I used to think that girls were usually much more better than concealing their feelings than boys were. You know, those who know how to use boys to their advantage just because they are stupid and would do anything for them. But,Stephanie Meyer showed the world that you just have to have a promising package to get normal (emphasis on normal,my dear friends) girls to drool all over it : Edward Cullen.

The thing is,I don't despise The Twilight Saga as a lot of other people seem to.It's fine if you want to pass your time when you have nothing else to do.And I meant no disrespect to people who think it's a good piece of work.We are all entitled to our own opinions, are we not?I just get frustrated sometimes when people compare it to Harry Potter (which is a true work of art and ingenuity) and say that Twilight is better. It is actually the most overrated form of entertainment ever in my opinion, and I will come back with more stuff on the novels and movies later!

Lastly,I would say this for the saga : From Twilight to New Moon through Eclipse and till Breaking Dawn, your luck lasted you much longer than you were supposed to.Technically, you should have died at around 6 o'clock in the morning!

  3. look ..
    the thing is ..
ofcourse, you can't compare Meyer with Rowling 'cause Rowling has a totally offbeat dinstinctive level of imagination ..
she chose a line which inevitably attracted kids as well as the old-schools ..
on the contrary, Meyer just has fan following of the the minors ..
old-school put it in this way "what crap, really" ..
so, Meyer is a good writer in a way too ..
all she wanted was to toss a "bad romance" between the other certain creatures that minors are obsessed of and she did a good job on it !
